Download Edexcel IGCSE English Language A May/June 2026 Papers and Mark Schemes

Looking for Edexcel IGCSE English Language A May/June 2026 papers and mark schemes? Tyrion Papers has a Summer 2026 collection for 4EA1, with individual question-paper and mark-scheme pairs and standard or regional bundles. Use the papers for timed revision, school mock preparation and practice for later examinations.

Quick answer: Choose Paper 1 and Paper 2 for the standard version, or Paper 1R and Paper 2R for the regional version where appropriate. The full collection lists both versions for wider practice. Check your course and the paper cover before choosing, and keep each question paper with its matching mark scheme.

What is available in the 4EA1 collection?

Option Content
Paper 1 / Paper 1R Non-fiction Texts and Transactional Writing — selected QP + matching MS
Paper 2 / Paper 2R Poetry and Prose Texts and Imaginative Writing — selected QP + matching MS
Standard bundle Papers 1 + 2, with their mark schemes
R bundle Papers 1R + 2R, with their mark schemes
Full collection Standard and R paper sets, with matching mark schemes

Regional papers are alternative versions, not a different grade or a third required examination. Choose a complete set appropriate to your course. If you use both versions for practice, keep them as separate attempts so the mark scheme never becomes mixed up with a different paper.

Why use May/June 2026 papers now?

The May/June series has finished, so these papers provide recent practice rather than a forecast of an examination still to come. A full attempt tests whether you can recognise the task without being told which topic to revise first. It also gives you evidence about pacing, confidence and where marks are being lost.

For later exams, confirm the current specification matches your course. Keep older papers and topic practice in your plan too. One series cannot sample everything, and these resources do not reveal which questions your school will select for a mock.

Reading practice: connect evidence with its effect

Start with the question’s focus and choose evidence that answers it. Naming a technique is not a complete analysis. Explain how the particular word, image, contrast or structural choice shapes meaning in this passage. Avoid repeating a stock claim such as “it makes the reader want to read on” when the text supports a more precise effect.

For comparison, establish a shared focus and discuss how the writers treat it differently or similarly. Keep returning to the question and support your comments with appropriate textual detail. A paragraph about each text separately can miss the comparison the task requires.

Writing practice: plan for purpose, audience and form

Before transactional writing, identify who you are addressing, what you want them to think or do and the requested form. Plan a small number of developed ideas and choose a tone that suits the task. Effective writing is more than adding a rhetorical question or an ambitious word to every sentence.

For imaginative writing, decide what changes during the piece and keep the sequence controlled. A manageable scene can work better than a complicated plot rushed at the end. Leave time to check sentence boundaries, punctuation and clarity, and correct repeated errors from earlier practice.

Confirm your assessment route with your teacher. Where your course uses coursework instead of the written Paper 2 route, do not assume the two-paper bundle is the set you must sit.

Turn a paper into three useful revision sessions

  1. Attempt independently: follow the printed instructions and keep answers closed. Note questions where you were unsure without stopping the whole attempt.
  2. Review with the matching scheme: identify what was credited and what was missing. Distinguish knowledge, application, structure and timing errors.
  3. Repair and retest: rewrite a weak section, explain why the change helps and try a different question after a gap.

Keep a brief record: question, skill, lost marks, correction and retest date. The correction should describe a transferable action rather than copy the mark scheme. This makes your next session easier to plan and helps you judge whether the weakness has actually improved.

Use another version or suitable past paper for a later timed attempt. A repeated paper can check consolidation, but a new question is stronger evidence that you can apply the same skill without remembering the answer. Mark schemes support review; they do not automatically provide a separate model-answer or full worked-solution document.
